Game News – SNES Games Might Come to Switch if New Filing from Nintendo is Any Indication

Nintendo released classic NES controllers for the Switch last year, and it looks like something similar is in the works for the Super Nintendo controller.

A recent filing by Nintendo with the Federal Communications Commissions features the silhouette of an SNES controller. Unfortunately, much of the filing is confidential. Apart from a picture of the back of the controller, the only additional information the filing reveals is Bluetooth support.

However, the release of a SNES controller for the Switch does usher in a renewed hope for SNES games on the Switch. After all, what better way to market the release of the new controllers than by providing access to relevant games? Furthermore, Nintendo already has a track record of doing so: when the NES Switch controllers released last year, Nintendo began providing access to a number of classic NES titles.

SNES Games Might Come to Switch if New Filing from Nintendo is Any Indication

Access to SNES games on the Switch would be incredible. I love Yoshi’s Crafted World, but it has nothing on Super Mario World 2: Yoshi’s Island. The Switch’s portability would be a great complement to that title and to the other amazing games Nintendo made for the SNES. And while I know there are licensing agreements that will make porting over some classic SNES titles impossible, the SNES library features a ton of excellent first-party games–it wouldn’t be so difficult for Nintendo to move them to the Switch. If they follow through, I will be positively giddy.

Please note, though, that this is all still just a dream. Nintendo has not confirmed that they will be providing access to SNES titles on the Switch. That said, here’s to hoping that they have big plans for the release of these SNES controllers.
