The May 2019 issue of Coro Coro Comic, releasing on April 15, has been leaked early today, as it always happens with such magazines. In it, Nintendo and Game Freak announced that a contest will be held regarding the upcoming new Pokemon games on Switch, Pokemon Sword and Shield.
The contest will ask Japanese Pokemon fans to name the strongest Steel-type move of Pokemon Sword and Shield. The move is described as a special attack, with 140 attack power. It deals heavy damage to the enemy pokemon but also cuts in half the current HP of the pokemon using it.
Japanese fans will be able to send in their name ideas with the form included in Coro Coro Comic. Hiragana, katakana, Alphabet, and numbers are allowed for the name, but it mustn’t be longer than 8 characters. The deadline for applications is on May 10. The winner of the contest will receive free copies of both Pokemon Sword and Shield. The fans behind the 20 other best names selected by Nintendo and Game Freak will receive a free copy of either Pokemon Sword or Pokemon Shield. It’s currently unclear if similar naming contests will be held for the game in other languages.
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield were announced during a Nintendo Direct at the end of February. Screenshots, artwork, details on the new Galar region and the 3 new starters have also been published. Lastly, we’ve also analyzed the starters and ranked them based on our initial thoughts following the reveal.
Pokemon Sword and Pokemon Shield are scheduled to launch exclusively on Nintendo Switch in late 2019.
