Nintendo reported its second-quarter operating profits on October 31, giving us the first official numbers on the Nintendo Switch Lite. The second-quarter starts with July and ends with September. The Nintendo Switch Lite launched on September 20, and it sold 1,95 million units in that quarter. It means Nintendo sold 1,95 units of the cheaper model in only ten days.
The cheaper Switch managed to find its buyers despite the impossibility to detach its Joy-Cons (making the Joy-Con drift dread very real) or the lack of a docking function to play on a TV. Commenting on the results, Dr. Serkan Toto mentioned this is only the beginning and the Switch Lite “will be a super hit in the long run”.
As you already know, Nintendo Switch Lite launched in three different colors: Yellow, Gray, and Turquoise. According to Takashi Mochizuki, Nintendo reported that the Turquoise version of Switch Lite is the best seller and it was in line with their expectations.
Nintendo also reported that the normal Nintendo Switch passed 34 million units sold worldwide. Switch sales overall will definitely get a huge boost at the end of the year with Christmas, and with Pokemon Sword and Shield releasing in around 2 weeks on November 15.
The financial report from Nintendo also included other interesting bits, like how Fire Emblem: Three Houses is pretty much the best selling game of the franchise, and rightfully so.
