While video game-based movies have been largely panned over the past many years, TV adaptations of games have managed to land surprisingly well (such as Netflix’s Castlevania series), and now with The Witcher series on the horizon, it’s the next chance to see what a major AAA game looks like in episodic form.
During San Diego Comic Con 2019, Netflix officially released the first teaser trailer for its anticipated The Witcher series, which gives us our best look yet at how the world of the series will be translated to the small screen. Notably, the Netflix series is intended as an adaptation of the book series versus CD Projekt RED’s acclaimed games, but fans of the games might find a couple flourishes inspired by the acclaimed titles.
Throughout the teaser we get numerous glimpses of Henry Cavill as Geralt of Rivia, while also seeing plenty of the series’ other familiar faces like Ciri, Yennefer, and more, alongside some quick looks at some of the monsters that Geralt will likely face throughout the series.
We’ve gotten plenty of details on the series over the past several months, from close-up looks at the lead cast in costume, to last week’s reveal of Geralt’s trusty steed, Roach. The only major piece of information we don’t know yet about the 8-episode first season is its release date, other than that it’s expected sometime this fall.
The Witcher will debut on Netflix later this year – for a closer look at the anticipated series, you can check out the official Comic Con teaser trailer below:
