Game News – Final Fantasy VII Remake Still Has “No Plans” to Come to Other Platforms Outside of PS4

Just yesterday, a new post from Xbox Germany seemed to indicate that Final Fantasy VII Remake would be coming to Xbox One. While the post was quickly deleted and met with an apology from one of the team members at XboxDACH, it still raised a lot of questions about the potential of Final Fantasy VII Remake coming to platforms outside of PS4.

Well, now, Square Enix has once again spoken out following this event and has again clarified that FF7R will not be coming to any other platforms when it launches next March. In a statement given to IGN, Square Enix said, “As previously announced, Final Fantasy VII Remake will be released for the PlayStation 4 on March 3rd 2020. We have no plans for other platforms.” It’s a pretty cut and dry statement that continues to verify that Final Fantasy VII Remake is still PS4-exclusive.

That said, Square Enix has never said in the past that Final Fantasy VII Remake will be PS4-exclusive forever. In fact, when the game was first revealed all the way back in 2015, the wording around the announcement said that fans would be able to, “Play it first on PlayStation 4.” Because of this, it has seemed like only a matter of time until Square reveals the game for other platforms.

Still, if Final Fantasy VII Remake is set to one day come to Xbox One and PC, it’ll likely happen months, if not over a year, after the title arrives on PS4 next March. Given the history of timed-exclusivity, which is what FF7R seems to be, most games typically arrive on other platforms a year or so after the initial launch. We don’t know if that will be the case here with Final Fantasy VII Remake, but it seems possible.

No matter what happens, if the game is set to come to other platforms besides PS4, Square Enix will surely inform us at some point in the future. Until then, you can expect Final Fantasy VII Remake to drop next year on March 3, 2020, exclusively on PS4.
